About the event
Join social studies instructional coach Dr. Elizabeth Rivas and the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute in collaboration with Education Service Center, Region 20 for a workshop on integrating Mexican American civil rights history into TEKS-aligned 7th-grade social studies curriculum.
Please note that the November 3rd workshop is designed for 7th-grade social studies teachers, but all grades are welcome.
This session will focus on Gloria Ladson-Billings’ Culturally Relevant Pedagogy. CRP is a pedagogical practice that encourages educators to facilitate settings where students can be academically successful while developing a critical consciousness and retaining and building their cultural identity. Also, the session will demonstrate how to apply CRP to instruction and how to integrate ethnic studies, specifically, Mexican American studies, into elementary and secondary instruction.
*THIS WORKSHOP IS FREE, BUT ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED AT: https://txr20.escworks.net/
