🌟 ABOUT OUR GUEST

Dr. Gene Chavez is a community archivist, historian, and educator. Dr. Chavez has conducted extensive research, written articles, and collected oral histories about the experiences of Mexican Americans in Kansas and Missouri. He has also explored the cultural connections between Kansas City and the Latino world, the history of the Kansas City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the role of Mexican Americans in baseball, the subject of his 2018 co-authored book Mexican American Baseball in Kansas City. His family roots in the U.S. Southwest influence his work. Dr. Chavez has served as a historian at the Kansas City Museum, the Kansas Humanities Council, the Overland Park Historical Society, and the Wyandotte County Historical Society and Museum. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Truman State University, a Master of Arts degree in Cross-Cultural Counseling, and a Doctor of Education degree in Social and Cultural Foundations of Education from Arizona State University.
